Dr. Saswat Das is the Head of Underwriting & Claims Practices for Manulife Asia. In his current role he provides guidance and support to claims and underwriting leadership teams of all Manulife Asia Business units, with specific focus on improving operational efficiency and customer experience. He is the business owner for key transformation initiatives for Manulife Asia like Automated Underwriting, Claims Reimagination and Health Transformation.  

Dr. Das has been part of the life and health insurance industry for more than 20 years, with experience in underwriting, claims management, product development, and business development. He began his career in the insurance industry as the Regional Head of Raksha TPA, a leading third-party administrator in India, and was instrumental in setting up its Western India servicing and claims-processing hub.  

After that, he was a senior underwriter for multinational insurers like Tata AIG Life and Birla Sun Life. Prior to joining Manulife he was the Executive Director, Underwriting and Claims, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, for RGA Reinsurance Company, focusing on facultative underwriting & claims, e-underwriting, product development and training. During his tenure with RGA he also played the role of a Medical Director for India, Middle East and South East Asian countries.  

In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Das has completed certification courses from the Chartered Insurance Institute (London), the Life Office Management Association (LOMA),and the Academy of Life Underwriters. His clinical work includes a stint at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, the premier medical center of India
