Lloyd’s is the world’s leading marketplace for commercial, corporate and specialty risk solutions. Since our beginnings in Edward Lloyd’s coffee shop back in 1688, we have been at the forefront of the insurance industry, with over 300 years of history providing risk solutions and insights for our customers. The business written at Lloyd’s is brought to the market by brokers and coverholders to specialist syndicates who price and underwrite risk. Syndicates are managed by managing agents. Much of the insurance and reinsurance capacity available at Lloyd’s is provided on a subscription basis, where syndicates collaborate to underwrite large and complex risks.
Insurers operating at Lloyd’s write on Lloyd’s paper, with a shared financial strength rating and through Lloyd’s licence network of over 80 direct insurance licences and 200+ reinsurance permissions worldwide.
The Lloyd’s market writes over £39bn GWP annually, across the world, predominantly commercial insurance and reinsurance.
The Lloyd’s Lab is a fast-track, fast-fail environment where new concepts, ideas and products can be tested with the support of experts from the world’s insurance and reinsurance market. The Lloyd’s Lab brings together InsurTechs, start-ups and ideas which support our market’s shared goal of sharing risk to create a braver world. Our main programme is an InsurTech accelerator which aims to help innovative ideas gain traction and success in our market. The accelerator gives InsurTech’s access to a coworking space in the Lloyd’s building and the chance to develop their ideas alongside their target audience for a period of 10 weeks.
